I work as a maî·tre d’hô·tel at an upscale restaurant in town and have had multiple occasions to witness incidents where our patrons splurged money and impressed everyone. Most moneyed clients walk in and sit quietly by themselves or with the company and proceed to enjoy their time without making a big show of it. It’s their lifestyle. Most of these well-off customers lack ostentation and prefer to keep it on the low. As a pricey outfit, we are careful not to discriminate service to customers based on their appearance. However, I’ve come across a couple of new faces showing off, strolling in with dates or friends and ending up either very sad or embarrassed.
Personally, I wouldn’t recommend our high-end hotel to anyone who is not a presidential appointee, if you catch my drift. So when a young gentleman strolls in with a pretty damsel on his arm acting like he’s been here all his life, as an experienced restaurateur I can easily call his bluff.
Most I presume are trying to portray a level of social and financial status that would simply bankrupt them and they’d have had more fun at a less pricey hotel. The problem is that once you go down the rabbit hole of attempting to impress your mates or date by how high your taste in upscale entertainment reaches, then you have to go all the way or risk the embarrassing outcome of failing to pay the bill or having to walk home sans date on a rainy night.
The first sign of a wannabe is his astonished look at the bill presented at the end of the evening and the painful smile that crosses his eyes as he puts away his wallet and opts to pay with his card instead. Of course, the last sign is his sagging shoulders as he walks out and the worried scowl on his face as he contemplates spending the next three weeks with three-quarters of his salary gone on a date who wasn’t quite impressed.
Enough said. I wish people would live within their means. It’s lonely up there, and expensive too.
That must be embarrassing, and I definitely would never want to be in such a circumstance. But, if you wish to improve your cash flow and start affording that lifestyle you’ve always wanted, come down to www.financiallyfit.com, and enrol for the online program.
